Co-operation Agreement between the European Community and the Kingdom of Cambodia

On 19 October 1999, the Council approved a Decision concluding the Co-operation Agreement(1) with Cambodia, which entered into force on 1 November 1999.

The agreement, signed on 29 April 1997, provides for cooperation on trade, economic and development issues, science and technology, intellectual property rights and the environment.

The scientific and technological co-operation will involve:

The Parties will co-operate in the fields of information, communication and culture to improve mutual understanding and strengthen existing ties between them.

In view of the importance of the ancient Khmer civilization and its heritage, appropriate support may also be provided for the promotion of new initiatives in the following areas:

The Parties recognise the importance of co-operation in the fields of telecommunications, the information society and multimedia. Such co-operation may include the exchange of information on the Parties' respective regulations and policies for telecommunications and technologies, mobile communications, information society, multimedia, networks and telematic applications (transport, health, education and environment).

A Joint Committee will be set up to ensure the proper functioning of the agreement. The agreement is concluded for five years; it includes a future-developments clause.
