Scientific and Technological Co-operation Agreement between the European Union and Argentina

On 25 January 1999 the Council of Ministers authorised the European Commission to negotiate a Scientific and Technological Co-operation Agreement between the European Community and Argentina. The agreement was signed on 20 September 1999. The objective is to encourage, develop and facilitate co-operative activities between the Community and Argentina in science and technology.

This agreement enables jointly funded research to be carried out as well as exchanges of scientists and technologies in all areas included in the First Activity of the EU's Fifth Framework programme for Research and Technological Development, which also includes the Information Society Technologies (IST) programme, with reference to libraries, archives and museums.

The Commission expects the agreement to enter into force towards the end of 1999.
